Bring the vibrant artistry of Mexico into your home with this exquisite hand-embroidered Otomi table runner crafted by Otomi women and men living in the central plateau of Mexico famous for their crafts called  “Tenangos”.

Tenangos are vibrant, hand-embroidered textiles originating from the Otomi people of Hidalgo, Mexico. These unique pieces showcase intricate designs inspired by local flora, fauna, and ancient cave paintings, creating a vivid tapestry of Mexican culture.

What makes tenangos truly special is the meticulous craftsmanship behind each piece that tells a story of tradition and creativity. Skilled Otomi artisans pour months of dedication into creating these colourful masterpieces, using traditional techniques passed down through generations.

TENANGO EMBROIDERY PROCESS

OTOMI EMBROIDERY PROCESS
1. Artisans cut the Mexican “Manta” (an environmentally friendly and non-toxic cotton) in a special size depending on the project that is going to be embroidered.
2. A Tenango drawer hand trace using a pencil. Stencils are definitely not allowed, and the quality of the drawing will directly affect the final outcome of the embroidered piece
3. The piece is embroidered using a "blind stich" technique, where the thread is kept on the front of the fabric and not looped all the way to the back.
